This is an invite-only trip. Bring a +1-2 and get chased by an elephant around Sri Lanka.
We will embark on a private tuk tuk rally —a chaotic adventure that embraces unpredictability and the jungle.
We will be picking up our 3-person tuk tuks in Colombo at 10am on April 30th, then heading south for a couple days along the surfing beaches, aiming for Dondra at the southern tip of Sri Lanka, driving an average of 4-5 hours a day.
Then we hang three rights and go north up the middle, over the mountains, through national parks, crisscrossing tea plantations while dodging sloths, monkeys and angry elephants.
Dropping off the tuk tuk (if it’s still in one piece and no one’s in jail) at Sri Lanka’s northern tip in Jaffna on May 6th at noon.
Duration: 7 days (Apr 30-May 6)
Cost: Tuk tuk in Sri Lanka is $80USD/day + accom and food
Specs: Everyone needs an international drivers license (usually just a $25 fee) because everyone will be driving. Each tuk tuk takes up to 3 people. I’m not booking accom in advance, and no fixed itinerary, planning to just let the trip ‘unfold’.
There’s an overnight first class sleeper train from Jaffna back to Colombo ($16).
As this is an unsupported adventure the exact route you take, where you sleep and how lost you get is entirely up to you, just as it should be.
